Stealth Education, the creators of educational games and apps for children, announced today the availability of the ABC Spy app for the iPhone (4 and 4S) and iPod Touch. ABC Spy combines the eternally popular I Spy game with gaming and technology to help children learn the alphabet and practice their spelling in a new interactive, fun mobile experience.

“ABC Spy puts a creative tool in the hands of the child and allows the adults to get out of the way. It gives the child choice – an opportunity to be creative, directing their own learning, professor Mark Alter, Professor of Educational Psychology, New York University, Stealth Education Advisory Board Member

ABC Spy challenges children to create their own ABC experience by taking photos of objects in their world for each letter of the alphabet. The Simon Spider character helps with handy hints such as Can you think of something nice to eat that begins with A? and if the child has difficulty finding something to photograph for a specific letter they are able to choose a photo within the game. The child can make the photo look just the way they want with an easy-to-use editor, and even choose from a selection of picture frames. To add to the experience, trophies are awarded for key achievements, and in app stats mean parents are able to watch their childrens progress as they learn.

ABC Spy is an activity app because as well as using great features on the iPhone, children get active thinking, discovering and solving problems in the world around them, said Henry Playfoot, Stealth Education CEO. Our aim with ABC Spy is to address the challenges parents face when their children ask Can I play on your phone its a great way to occupy a little one in the supermarket or on a long journey without the guilt of pacifying them with traditional mobile games.

Perhaps the most innovative and exciting aspect of ABC Spy comes when children have completed their alphabet – they simply tap the make a film button to generate a movie that can be viewed on the phone and shared with friends and family worldwide via YouTube.

ABC Spy brings the ABC book format to the YouTube generation. It gives children the freedom to create their own visual alphabet by enabling them to add their own content. The game element is fun and relevant, and to my mind more likely to achieve a more engaged learning experience, Ian Livingstone, Life President Eidos.

The ABC Spy app is currently available in iTunes for iPhone (4 and 4S) and iPod Touch. The iPad2 version is expected to be available early Q1 2012.
